Columbia, MD - The Foundation for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine has named Eric Hasemeier, DO, CMD, as its 2018 Medical Director of the Year. Dr. Hasemeier is the medical director for eight facilities in rural Tennessee and CEO and founder of Dr. Hasemeier & Associates, which specializes in post-acute and long-term care.
Dr. Hasemeier is recognized as a consummate leader by his colleagues. He participates in his facilities’ surveys, meeting with surveyors and making himself available to address questions and issue that arise. He has helped more than one facility become deficiency-free; and he has established positive relationships with surveyors in his state, who know him as a source of honest, accurate information. He also has led several important quality improvement efforts in his facilities. He introduced an aggressive antibiotic stewardship program that has significantly reduced the incidence of C. diff. He also established ongoing gradual dose reductions efforts for antipsychotics and anxiolytics that reduced the percentage of patients using these drugs from over 50% to under 10%. At the same time, he developed an aggressive bladder retraining program that has significantly reduced and even eliminated the in-house use of Foley catheters.
Not only does Dr. Hasemeier deliver regular educational programs for staff and practitioners at his facilities, but he also presents on a variety of topics throughout the state and nationally. “It’s an honor to be recognized, especially by my peers and colleagues,” says Dr. Hasemeier. He adds, “I’ve found my niche and purpose in life. This is my dream job. Every morning, I get up and look forward to going to work. I love what I do.”
The Medical Director of the Year Award, established in 2007, recognizes those individuals whose vision, passion, leadership, and commitment succeed in taking patient care in the facilities they serve as medical directors to exceptional levels of quality, excellence, and innovation.
(Clinton, Tennessee)…The Waters of Clinton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 220 Longmire Road, names Chad Hill as its new facility administrator. Hill grew up a few miles down the road in Halls Crossroads, TN and enjoys this close-knit community he calls home.
“There’s nothing more reassuring than a hometown face when life throws you a curve,” Hill observed. “I know so many wonderful families in this area, and I want to reassure them that they will be well taken care of should they ever need our healthcare services.”
The Waters is a skilled nursing facility licensed for 120 beds offering short-term rehabilitation that includes physical, occupational, and speech therapies, as well as outpatient services and wound care. The rehabilitation portion of the building occupies its own wing with a separate entrance. The facility also provides wound care and other long-term skilled nursing with 24-hour nursing staff and an in-house nurse practitioner.
Hill was drawn to long-term care based on firsthand family experience after his great grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. As a young man visiting her, he was in and out of the nursing facilities where she received care.
“I decided to take gerontology classes while in college,” he said, “and a helpful professor opened my eyes to the many opportunities available in this field.”
Hill added that long-term care gives staff an opportunity to form close connections with residents, along with their families, and to create a sense of community.
“From my very first day on the job, I was warmly welcomed by both residents and staff. I was pleased to discover a close-knit and experienced team working here,” Hill said. “It felt like I was coming home.”
Hill’s ambitious vision for the facility includes consistently delivering outstanding services so that residents will vote it as best in the area.
“I look forward to integrating The Waters into the community as a whole with interesting and educational activities open to all elders in the area,” he said. “I’m especially excited about launching a partnership with the Knoxville Zoo to bring monthly programs here about insects, birds or animals – even bringing some from their own collection for our residents and guests to observe up close.”
In his leisure time, Hill enjoys golf, cruises, and travel in general – especially to Disney World.
“My favorite ride is the Space Mountain roller coaster,” he said with an impish smile. “And for my next birthday, I plan to go sky diving.” Sounds like Hill will bring that same sense of adventure and fearlessness to his leadership at The Waters.
